After the start of the spread of 3G networks, in particular in St. Petersburg, of course, I certainly wanted to use the opportunity to access the Internet at a decent speed outside the home.
But it turned out that 3G-modems are either on usb- “lace” at a more or less adequate price, or in a more convenient format (ExpressCard, miniPCI-e), but at an inconceivable price. And not that I wanted a freebie, but to give more than 6 tr for a modem. there was no desire).
(carefully, a lot of photos)
My friend and I decided on some "modding" of his laptop.
A 3G modem (ZTE MF662) was purchased in Beeline office (no advertising, just a fact) for 1999r.

Immediately unpacked, tested and disassembled (as always, gently)

The content was a board with a miniUsb port (nothing strange)

In the article about the
“Modding” of the laptop, the installation of the bluetooth adapter I told about the connector for the bluetooth adapter on the motherboard, and that’s what we’ll use to connect a 3G modem.
Let me remind usb-port:
Pin-1 5 volts
Pin-2 USB D-
Pin-3 USB D +
Pin-4 GND
and pinout connector on the motherboard:
Pin-1 5 volts
Pin-2 GND
Pin-3 USB D +
Pin-4 USB D-
accordingly we connect as follows:
Pin-1 - 1
Pin-2 - 4
Pin-3 - 3
Pin-4 - 2
Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop
(I omit the details of the disassembly of the laptop, for lack of need)
During the search for a suitable place, it was decided to install a modem so that the possibility of changing the SIM card remained. Such a place was found in the back of the case:

A couple of partitions were removed to ensure free space, a modem was placed

In the back of the laptop was carefully sawn through the slot for the SIM card

The connector on the motherboard was in the front, where it was soldered

“Field” tests were made, as it turned out successful :)

Wires are laid in the appropriate "grooves"

The laptop is finally assembled and running.
I don’t see any point in describing the software installation process, because everything went according to the instructions.
The modem is turned on / off by a button on the front panel (instead of bluetooth)

enjoy!
ps even with software from the biline modem works with a megaphone sim card, although on the forums on the occasion there have been cases of “blocked” modems refusing to work with alien sim cards.
The pps issue with antenna embedding is still open, but the modem works fine without it :)
upd: I repeat: this is not a Beeline advertisement (as some, like
Bobos thought)
it just happened.
