Yahoo creates an incubator to grow its startups

The main goal of creating such an incubator, according to insiders , is to try to retain within the corporation those talents that came to the company along with the latest acquisitions of Web 2.0 startups. Talented and successful developers and entrepreneurs are not used to the bureaucratic procedures common to a large corporation. It is quite natural that they want to return to freedom in order to start a new business there.

The incubator called Brickhouse will be headed by Caterina Fake, the founder of the famous Flickr service, which recently became the property of Yahoo .

Large Internet corporations in our time can not feel safe under the pressure of a huge number of promising startups. On the Internet, business development is happening so fast that the Internet giant does not even have time to notice how he concedes this or that market in favor of newly-minted startups.

Another big problem is that many talented people leave the corporation to start their own business. In the case of Yahoo, you can list a whole list: Rob Lord ( Songbird startup), Bruce Carsch ( Wink ), Gary Flake ( Microsoft Live Labs ), Tony Schneider ( Automattic and True Ventures ), Derek Dukes ( VideoEgg ) and many others.

That is why Yahoo has decided to establish a similar business incubator. All conditions for growing independent startups will be created here. In this sense, Yahoo does not invent anything new. Other large Internet corporations have their business incubators. For example, Google has Google Labs and a rule of 20% of working time, which each employee can give to their own projects. Microsoft has an AdLab incubator where innovative technologies are created for the adCenter advertising platform.
