Russian ophthalmologists told about bionic vision. New mobile application demonstrates cybernet work

Our eyes and their ability to see is the most complex biological mechanism. To form it, nature took millions of years of evolution. But what if this unique mechanism suddenly fails? Humanity stepped into the era of IT-technologies less than half a century ago - an instant by the standards of nature - but it already learned how to restore, and sometimes replace, living elements with cybernetic elements.

Each participant of the interactive lecture “How to return sight? Bionic visual prostheses and virtual reality ”, held within the walls of MGTU them. Bauman 20 February. The event was held by experts of the Scientific and Production Laboratory "Sensor-Tech" - a Moscow developer of technology for people with hearing and vision impairments.

Doctors told about the experience of using bionic retinal prostheses, which two Russians currently possess. Modern technologies have allowed completely blind people to partially regain the ability to see the world around them. And although modern "mechanical eyes" are very limited, in the future the quality of artificial vision will grow and at some point will be able to completely restore the lost visual functions, the organizers are sure.

The participants of the lecture were shown the development of the Laboratory "Sensor-Tech" - the first Russian VR simulator, which allows anyone to "try on" the bionic retina implant and see the world with "cybernetic vision."

See My World is implemented as a free application on a smartphone and laid out in the public domain. In addition to the "bionic vision", it contains information on all the most common diseases of vision, as well as methods for their prevention and treatment. The demonstration part includes a simulation of each of these disorders - any downloaded application will be able to “look” at the world through the eyes of people with severe eye diseases or cyber people using modern visual prostheses.

In 2017, the Sensor-Tech Laboratory, together with the Foundation for the Deaf-Blind Deaf, “Soyedinenie” and other partners, participated in the first operations in Russia to install a bionic implant to blind people. And since then, systematically promoting research and technology that in the future will be able to help the blind to see.

Lecture at MSTU. Baumana became the first in a series of interactive events dedicated to new technologies. Similar lectures will be held in Kaluga, Samara, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg. The laboratory is looking for partners who want to hold an event on the basis of its own site and invites young scientists and anyone interested in artificial vision technologies to participate in the project.

Detailed information on projects on bionic prosthetics is presented on the website of the Laboratory "Sensor-Tech" .
