On the introduction of digital technologies in business, Russia ranked 3rd from the end

The HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge has developed a business digitalization index , which characterizes the speed of adaptation to the digital transformation of business sector organizations. The index is calculated on five indicators:

• the level of use of broadband Internet;
  
• the level of use of cloud services;
  
• the level of use of RFID technology;
  
• the level of use of ERP-systems;
  
• inclusion in electronic commerce.

By all five indicators Russia lags behind European countries. The analysis showed that broadband Internet access is used by 82% of organizations, cloud services - 23%, ERP systems - 19%, electronic sales - 12%, RFID technologies - 6%.

The index was calculated for European countries, as well as several countries from other regions (South Korea, Turkey and Japan). Quite unexpectedly, the first place was taken not by Japan or Germany, but by Finland.

For example, broadband internet in Finland is used by 100% of companies, and cloud services - by 66%. Also, one hundred percent level of use of broadband Internet is noted in Denmark, Lithuania and the Netherlands.

The top five included Belgium, Denmark, South Korea and the Netherlands, and Russia closed the rating along with Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Romania. In particular, the level of broadband Internet penetration among Russian companies is the lowest in Europe.

The results of the ISSEZ HSE rating coincide with the data of the Global Network Readiness Index of the World Economic Forum, Kommersant reports . In both ratings, the Scandinavian countries and South Korea occupy high positions, while Russia is adjacent to other countries in the Eastern European region. This is probably one of the reasons that “a Russian entrepreneur, when selling his business, can count on a sum of two to four times less than his colleagues from both developed and most developing countries” - this is the conclusion reached by experts of the Moscow School of Management (LNA) Skolkovo and the UCP investment group.
