Huawei showed a folding phone for $ 2600

The Galaxy Fold introduced three days ago was the first folding phone in the world, but the new Huawei Mate X surpasses it in many ways, including at the price (2,299 euros, or about $ 2,600 or 170,000 Russian rubles). The novelty was shown today at the MWC 2019 exhibition in Barcelona.

Unlike the Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X has only one OLED display, but the phone can be folded so that this display becomes external. And if you deploy it like a book with two pages, you get a huge almost square screen of 2480 × 2200 pixels. The patented hinge between the two halves consists of more than 100 parts. Representatives of Huawei said that the reliability of the display is tested for 100,000 additions (it turns out about three years, if you fold 100 times a day).

In the folded state, the thickness of the smartphone is only 11 mm, in the unfolded - 5.6 mm, that is, even thinner than the iPad Pro.

This little monster has three cameras, including the main Leica (a similar configuration is used on all Huawei smartphones after the P20 Pro). Since the displays are on both sides, when shooting a person, he can see what the photographer sees on the first screen on the second screen.

The phone runs on a Kirin 980 processor and is equipped with a Balong 5000 5G modem. Supports download speeds of 4.6 Gbps or 6.5 GHz, depending on the frequency range. That is, a gigabyte movie should download in about three seconds. But this is if the phone works on the 5G network.

Both chips are manufactured by Huawei. The company has long stated that its processors will double the performance of competing chips in performance. In this case, competitors are Qualcomm Snapdragon and Samsung Exynos.

Among other features: 512 GB of flash memory, 4500 mAh battery (total capacity of two batteries), fast charging function up to 85% in 30 minutes.

The phone works under Android 9.0 Pie, but the developer states that in Desktop Mode it can be used as a desktop unit.

The device should go on sale in the middle of the year. The company has no plans to import it to the US market. As you know, the US authorities are pursuing Huawei because of backdoors in network equipment .
