"Electric State" - now definitely

I think many people know the digital artist Simon Stalenhag , telling in his work a slightly strange, but fascinating story of the adventures of a girl and a yellow robot in a certain post-apocalyptic / cyberpunk world.

Not once or twice have you seen discussions on the topic “how can you properly translate the word state?”.

And I thought: why not ask the author himself?

And I wrote him a letter of the following content: “Mr. Simon, we, the fans from Russia, cannot understand how it is correct, because in our language this word is translated as“ state ”, and as“ staff ”, and even as“ level "Or" rank ". Please explain what you mean. ”

It's nice that Simon found time, and only an hour later I received an answer. Here he is:

“Hi Oris.

The title "The Electric State" could be interpreted in two ways. First: It is the colloquial term for the state of the Pacific (fictitious) state of the Pacific. Pacific, is a merged "superstate", occupying the same area as states of California, Oregon and Washington. It is divided into five such “superstates“, it’s something like that. The word "Electric" would then refer to the neurographic network of the Pacifica.

But "The Electric State" could be interpreted as the neurological state of the neurological state. is in control of the yellow robot.

The Electric State header can be interpreted in two ways. Firstly, it is a common name for the fictional state of Pacifica, the region in which most of the book’s events take place. In the world of the book, Pacifica is the result of a merger into one "superstatte" of the territories of the modern states of California, Oregon and Washington.
