Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon X55 Universal 5G Chip

Fifth-generation networks are gradually becoming a reality, and not only as pilot projects. But the high cost of upgrading the infrastructure and the need to develop new chips for electronic devices slows down the speed of 5G deployment in many countries, including Russia.

One of the companies involved in the advancement of technology is Qualcomm. The other day, she introduced the Snapdragon X55 chip, which works on 5G networks and simultaneously supports 4G. This chip has an alternative - single-chip Snapdragon 855 in conjunction with a separate 5G chip - an X50 modem.

As for the new chip, it is based on the 7-nm process technology, the Snapdragon X55 supports both the frequency spectrum below 6 GHz and the connection of the 5G NR millimeter spectrum. When the fifth generation device is connected to the network, the device based on the new chip develops download speeds of up to 7 Gbps and downloads of 3 Gbps. As for the LTE standard, there will be an actual speed of up to 2.5 Gb / s at best.

Modem X55 is almost universal chip. It is able to work in various modes, including TDD and FDD, besides, it operates in autonomous and non-autonomous modes of network operation. Thanks to its versatility, operators can begin to deploy fifth-generation networks in existing 4G bands.

It is worth noting that the new chip is still the only one that provides adaptive tuning of the antenna for the 5G to 6 GHz range. The chip can work in mobile devices, phones and tablets, laptops, fixed wireless access points, etc.
