How did CNN's holographic system work?

We have already talked about a unique technological innovation that was used on CNN: they launched a real holographic image live, and several times. The presenter in the studio spoke with a hologram of the correspondent throughout the marathon on the counting of votes from the headquarters of Obama and McCain - for the first time in the history of television (video from the link above).

The Gizmodo blog explains how this technological innovation works. In short, “magic” was made possible thanks to the Vizrt and SportVu systems , as well as 44 high-resolution cameras and 20 computers.

Here is a list of equipment on the side of the correspondent.

• 35 HD cameras that shoot the correspondent from all sides.
• The cameras were not located in the same plane, but were shot at a different angle.
• In fact, the correspondent was filmed in a special trailer, and not at the headquarters of the candidates, and there were only a couple of cameras.
• 37-inch plasma screen on which the correspondent saw the studio.
• 20 servers for data processing in real time.
