Mail.Ru. According to the company's own estimates, the product occupies more than 30% of the Russian market for instant messaging services.
According to the statistics of the holding, a million users send about 13 million messages through the “Agent” daily, and the peak of attendance is 15 hours on weekdays. At the same time, the largest number of users who are simultaneously online is 315 thousand people. The daily audience of the program is 1/3 of the daily audience of the entire Mail.Ru portal.
However, among Russian Internet researchers, as usual, there is no unity in the estimates. The published
results of the Rambler, for example, paint a different picture of the distribution of shares in the market of instant messaging services. According to them, when answering the question about preferences in choosing IM, Internet users basically - more than 56% - name ICQ varieties, and no other program gains more than 7%. Mail.Ru Agent, according to the "Rambler", has 6.3%, while the
Rambler-ICQ - as much as 23.4%.

Independent researchers also do not talk about the share of "Agent", close to 30%. In a report by
MASMI with data for April 2006
(about 70,000 respondents in different regions of Russia and abroad were surveyed as part of the tenth wave of the “Online Monitor” study) , the Mail.Ru Agent share was set at 15.6% in Russia (15.9 - abroad). The share of “
Rambler-ICQ ”, according to MASMI, is also less than what Rambler calls - it amounts to 8.7% in Russia (7.8% abroad). The absolute leader, the “original” ICQ, has a 39.8% share of the country.
Explaining the situation, analysts say that the results obtained by Rambler are naturally shifted towards
Rambler-ICQ , and the results obtained by Mail.Ru are equally shifted towards Mail.Ru Agent. At the same time, they explain that the total share of communicators seems constant throughout the year.
This does not mean, however, that the IM audience has ceased to grow. The share of "Agent" is increased by Mail.ru, where the messenger is advertised. The share of
Rambler-ICQ follows the same pattern on the Rambler. But portals successfully distribute the service only to their users - they can hardly claim the audience of other portals. However, experts say that the “Agent” “binds” existing users to Mail.Ru, and the
Rambler-ICQ keeps people on the “Rambler”.
