Koreans will hold gigabit internet in every home

South Korea is one of the world leaders in broadband access. In this country, almost all apartments are connected to the Internet at a speed of tens of megabits per second. Quantitative development of the market is no longer possible, only qualitative progress remains. Therefore, Internet providers do not spare the forces and means to find a way to increase speeds. This will bring new tariffs to the market and gain a competitive advantage.

Above the task in Korea work entire research institutes, even government. The local press reports that the Research Institute of Electronics and Communications (ETRI), which is funded from the state budget, has developed a new technology for transmitting signals via optical fiber. This technology allows you to connect multiple users at a speed of 1 Gbit / s.

“To date, only 16 users can connect at a speed of 1 Gbit / s to a single fiber-optic channel. This is one of the main obstacles to the commercial debut of the Gigabit Internet, ”said the official representative of the ETRI Institute, which is located in the city of Daejeon two hundred kilometers south of Seoul. A group of ETRI researchers have created a spectral channel multiplexing technology that increases the number of channel bandwidths so that from 32 to 512 users can connect to it.

Now it is becoming quite real the emergence of the world's first commercial services that will provide home users with access at a speed of 1 Gbit / s. According to representatives of ETRI, similar services will appear this year.

These speeds allow you to download, for example, a movie in great HD quality for a few minutes. DVD images can be downloaded in seconds. It is difficult to even imagine what new web services can appear in such conditions, even if a small increase in speed in the early 2000s. led to the emergence of web 2.0.

In addition to terrestrial channels, South Korea is ready to increase the speed in wireless networks by an order of magnitude. A few days ago, Samsung showed a working prototype of a 4G system , in which the data transfer rate was the same 1 Gbit / s for a stationary receiver and 100 Mbps for a receiver in motion.
