Chip that increases the stability of the car

Driving in difficult conditions can be made safer thanks to a new chip from UC Irvine researchers.
A team of researchers led by Andrei Shlel, a professor of mechanics and aerospace engineering, and the director of the UCI MicroSystems Laboratory, developed a device with a 1.7 mm side that helps stabilize a car moving in dangerous conditions, such as making sharp turns on wet roads, which could would lead to a coup car.
The device is a Micro Electro-Mechanical (SMEM) gyro system, which defines a permanent center of gravity and notifies the security system when torsion or rotation begins to occur. GEM gyroscopes are an important technological step, since the system can operate in difficult conditions and is also not expensive.
Such systems have already been used in expensive cars, but sensors used there, made of quartz, are too expensive for mass distribution.
The developers hope that their device will be able to become popular and will be installed in a larger number of cars.
