Despite the fierce resistance of broadcasters, Google and other representatives of the Internet industry still
managed to achieve a vote in the FCC on the transfer of traffic in unused parts of the television frequency. It ended in our favor unanimously: the federal commission formally approved the transfer of frequencies for these purposes. What else is very important, the FCC has chosen a model of using frequencies without licenses, which can contribute to its rapid spread.
As is known, the technology provides for the transmission of useful traffic in the sections “between channels”, which broadcast in a huge range of frequencies (at one time, as the frequencies were not deficient, they grabbed a very fat and clearly unnecessary part of the spectrum). If you use all these gaps, then now you can broadcast megabits per second on television, and you can easily combine the signal receiver with the same TV. A new technology called “Wi-Fi on steroids” and it has long been
promoted by the same Google.
Experts believe that this is a great victory for users and the Internet business (since wireless Internet will become cheaper and more accessible), however, it creates problems for telecoms and, of course, broadcasters.
