bluetooth pan network - the Internet on your phone from the "big brother"

It so happens that you need to control a computer from another room, for example, from the kitchen or from your favorite couch :). I often steer rtorrent over ssh using MidpSSH . Unfortunately, there is no Wi-Fi in my phone, but there is support for the bluetooth pan . With it, you can distribute the Internet from a computer to your phone. In this topic, I will tell Habrayuser about the simple configuration of such a network based on a PC with Linux and a Sony Ericsson phone.
Careful, a lot of pictures!

I saw such a thing for a long time, but unfortunately I didn’t know about its support with my phone, nor the methods of setting up Linux, because I saw manuals only for a bunch of nokia + win.
So, if you often use gprs at home, or you want to steer a computer via ssh from the next room and have a bluetooth adapter and the Internet on your computer, then this is for you. It is also desirable the presence of Linux and the brand of the mobile phone should not be different from mine either.

Perhaps we will begin.

1. Setting up the computer

Go to http://blueman.tuxfamily.org/ and install blueman from there. There are instructions on the site, for ubuntu there is even a repository, which, by the way, contains updated versions of firewood for bluetooth.
After installation, run blueman and go to the Edit-Services menu:

There we tick the “Autostart” checkbox at the “Network” item and click on the button so that the check mark on it becomes green - so we will start the service so that it can be further configured. As you may have guessed, click on the button with the sliders next to the “Network” we need.

We see such a window with settings.

Expand the “Start a server” and “Network settings” items.
In the “Start a server” item, click on the “Network access point” button so that a green check mark appears on it, then go to the “Network settings” item and do everything there as shown in the figure - a tick mark at the “use DHCP” and “enable NAT” points »If you want your phone to be available online. It is important to install the dhcpd3 package. “Server IP” we write 192.168.0.1 to avoid conflicts with the Internet. Next, close the window, and do reboot. In the meantime, a reboot is done, you can configure the phone.

Next comes the settings for the SE k550, settings for your model may be different from these

2. Phone setup

We go to the settings, there we select the bluetooth item and go to "My devices":

Choose your computer in the list and click to connect:

A notification appears that a connection is being made. If you are faced with the fact that the phone refuses to connect, giving an error about the completed list of accounts, delete unnecessary Internet settings, for example, those that are not for your operator. The phone may or may not connect, regardless of this, go to the “Data transfer” menu:

Select the item "Data Accounts":

And make sure your computer is there. Even the bluetooth icon is near

Then go to the menu "Internet Options"

There we choose the first item

And create a new profile - click on this menu “Connect. through:"

And choose a computer, and again with the bluetooth icon.

Enter any name, then save

We install this profile for Java and the Internet and again go to the Bluetooth menu — my devices:

Connect to your computer again:

Now you can open the browser and climb on any site:

Now, always, while you are connected to your pan network, the bluetooth icon will be active:
