The research division of Microsoft Research in Cambridge has upgraded
Surface's proprietary interface. The new prototype is called SecondLight. As you can see in the demo video (
WMV ), if you hold some opaque material above the table, then it will have another picture.

So we get two screens. For example, a satellite map of the area can be displayed on a table, and street names can be projected onto a sheet at the top. Or on the table - the image of the car, and if you hold a sheet over it - then there will be shown its design from the inside.

In fact, here the image is projected
from under the table. The table itself is an LCD display that, imperceptibly to the eye, quickly switches to a transparent state in order to pass through the image. The eye does not notice these periods of transparency, but the picture is successfully projected through the table, and it looks very impressive.

Moreover, with the help of an infrared camera, the second display can even be used as a multitouch.
