Several European universities and Harvard continue to work on the
Tribler mega-project to create the ideal BitTorrent client. We have already mentioned this project several times in Habré, for example, after the development of a
payment system based on the offsetting of traffic (gigabytes instead of dollars, which can be used to pay for goods), as well as after the implementation
of the recommendation system .
And now the developers have announced (
PDF ) that the new version of the Tribler 4.1.0 client implements the technology of full decentralized work. All statistics on downloads and distributions, as well as information on ratings and privileges, is stored in a distributed client network without the help of torrent trackers, while there is a system of
social recommendations using the Buddycast protocol , which eliminates the threat of spam. You can search for new .torrent files directly on the computers of other users, again without the need for torrent trackers.

It only remains to add that Harvard is the richest university in the world. In addition, they have their own army of professors of jurisprudence, which will always protect the project from “raids” by the RIAA, MPAA, or whoever it may be.
