Google, Yahoo and Microsoft unite for ... free speech
The Wall Street Journal yesterday announced an unexpected initiative of three “good giants”: Google, Microsoft and Yahoo, together with human rights and public interest organizations, agreed to create the Global Network Initiative - an organization that will monitor companies in countries with restricted freedom of speech and self-expression.
In the past, all three companies have been criticized for “respecting profits more than human rights and dignity” in general, and in particular, of course, regarding the intimate question of China. The official site has a full list of participants in the organization.
Wall Street Journal:
New principles that were formulated more than two years ago, technological titans promise to protect the personal information of their users regardless of how the business goes and to interpret government requests for disclosure of personal information in accordance with their rules.
