Design for customer or quality design

As a director of a website development company, I encounter a situation: the designer draws a beautiful layout, beautiful, according to the customer's corporate style, using, perhaps, some innovations. In general, the whole team gasps. The customer does not like it, we begin to redraw according to his hotelok and as a result we get a “dull g-no”, standard, one can say template. Customer is happy! And then we don’t even really want to post it in our portfolio. Of course, we earn money, and, in principle, I like it, it pays - well, all right. But there is professional pride, I want to do high-quality, innovative things that meet de facto web standards.
Gentlemen, how to find a compromise in this situation?
