Yandex , intending to replenish the Yandex.Slovari service base, is launching a large-scale program for digitizing dictionaries and reference books. Under this program, the company will acquire the rights to publish dictionaries and encyclopedias for various branches of knowledge. It is planned to spend about a million dollars over two years.
Indexed books will be collected on the site "Yandex. Dictionaries." Links to dictionary entries will also appear when searching from the main page of the portal. A search query can be specifically started with the words “what is” or “who is” - in the search results on the web, the first will be links to relevant articles from encyclopedias.
According to Yandex, the project partner is digitizing dictionaries, the state center for electronic information resources of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Scientific and Technical Center
Informregistr . Selects books to digitize the editorial board of the program.

“The Internet is a unique reference system,” says Arkady Volozh, CEO of Yandex. - However, it is often difficult to establish the accuracy and reliability of information posted on the Internet. The goal of our program is to add verified and tested sources of knowledge to the public network. ”
The “venture” of the company pleases Maxim Moshkov, the creator of the largest Russian electronic library
Lib.Ru : “It is especially pleasant that Informregister is engaged in digitizing dictionaries. I saw how they totally and deeply worked out the digitization of the collected works of Russian classics. Unattainable class, huge and very expensive work. If they work at the same level in this project, they will only have to take off their hat. ”
Of the latest updates on Yandex.Dictionaries, there is an encyclopedia of symbols, a dictionary of modern place names, a philosophical dictionary, a jazz reference book.
Total service contains about 2 963 476 articles in 49 dictionaries and encyclopedias. Alexander Antopolsky, doctor of technical sciences, believes that the program will accelerate the movement to the Internet publishers, most of which now only provide books on paper.
