Android Market: the results of the first 24 hours of operation

As you know, the day before yesterday, the Android Market, an analogue of the App Store, opened its virtual doors for its first visitors. It's time to sum up some of the results. After a day, it can be seen that the range of programs in two stores is about the same: games, informers, music applications, etc. Although there are still differences: for example, there are no games in the top three most popular Android applications, but they are for the iPhone. In addition, under Android, there is a much larger share of applications related to work productivity and lifestyle (for a detailed comparison of the range, see under habrakat).

Unlike the App Store (less than a day after launch, how they closed the statistics), the Android Market shows the number of downloads for each application (not the exact range, but the range). Judging by these figures, about half a million downloads were recorded during the first day of work (from 206,000 to 770,000). On average, each application downloaded 7850 times (weighted average). The most popular programs have the same statistics as the leaders on the App Store on the first day of its work (before Apple closed the statistics).

During the first 24 hours of the Android Market, 62 applications were added to it, all free. This is more than ten times less than in the App Store on the first day of work. In addition, when opening the App Store, it was immediately possible to distribute paid programs through it, but the commercial functionality of the Android Market was planned no earlier than I quarter. 2009

Nine applications immediately crossed the milestone of 10,000 downloads. The rating is sorted by the average rating and the number of reviews, which allows you to determine which of these applications are still actively downloaded.

In the first half of the App Store's work, only two applications overcame the mark of 10,000 downloads.

If we analyze the themes of applications, then it should be noted that it is very similar in Android and the App Store. Either the audience has the same interests, or the Android developers duplicate the functionality of popular iPhone applications. However, under Android, the share of applications related to work productivity and lifestyle is much larger, and fewer games, entertainment and multimedia widgets. True, this is a very preliminary analysis, because the store assortment will increase at least a hundred times, then it will be possible to compare more objectively.
