An interesting technology was invented in the research division of Microsoft. This is a multitouch that works from a distance. The gesture recognition system allows you to control the device, even without touching it. For example, you can put a device on a table and run your fingers across the table to the right and left of it, as shown in the illustration. Finger movements are captured even in the air, that is, the device does not have to be placed anywhere.

Along the entire body, infrared sensors are built into the sides of the device, which provide feedback.
Such development can be especially relevant for ultra-compact devices with small displays, on which it is really impossible to control the fingers, and it is inconvenient to use the stylus.
So far, technology exists only in the form of a concept: the presentation was held at the recent
User Interface Software and Technology conference, and it is described in more detail in the document "SideSight: Multi-touch Interaction Around Small Devices".
