Poverty hidden by the shadow of skyscrapers

Surely, many, like me, thought about the greatness of new buildings in Dubai : the tallest skyscrapers in the world, the longest bridges and the most daring projects. The amount of steel, glass and concrete in this city is amazing, but, as is often the case, the flip side remains invisible.

In this, without a doubt, beautiful city on almost slave rights dwells 300,000 people. They work, get injured and die for $ 4-5 per day. Correspondent English Guardian reminds us of this:
All these people are part of a huge crowd helping the industrial boom in the strait. Hundreds of thousands of migrant workers each paid over $ 2,000 to employment agents in India and Pakistan. They were promised twice the salary than they actually get, plus plane tickets to the house and back once a year - but none of them even read their contract. In truth, only two of them could read.
')
Upon arrival in the United Arab Emirates, migrant workers are treated like waste pots, access to health care and other key aspects of a person’s normal life is out of the question. A company sponsoring their stay carefully keeps their passports with them, and often their salary for one or two months to make sure that the overseas guests are working. For these reasons, some of them earn only $ 124 per month.
