Sales of electric cars in Canada

Continuing the topic of this article .

The beginning of the massive supply of Tesla Model 3 to Canada helped to bring the total sales of electric vehicles in the country to a new record level. Now it is 8% of all new cars sold in Canada. Perhaps the figure does not look very impressive, but it is much more than in the markets of many other developed countries.

The total number of EV sales in Canada in the last quarter was 13,000 units - an increase of 166% compared with the same period last year. In total, at this time about 35,000 electric vehicles have already been sold. The growth rates are impressive and one can only guess about the changes that will follow in the next few years.

Probably by the end of 2018 more EV will be acquired in Canada than in the three previous years combined.

The supply of Tesla Model X / S in the last 3 months has also increased and they occupy the 4th and 5th places, respectively.

Despite the positive figures, the overall growth in EV sales next year may slow down somewhat. The fact is that the jump in sales in Ontario was caused, including the fact that the provincial program to stimulate purchases in the next year will be canceled. Now a buyer in Ontario will return $ 14,000 when buying an electric vehicle. In the province of British Columbia, the return is only $ 5,000 and cancellation is not expected next year.

But, despite the abolition of this program in Ontario in 2019, the growth in sales of EV is likely to continue anyway, this will help, including sales of Model 3 and market innovations such as the Audi e-tron, Kia Niro EV and Hyundai Kona Electric .
