YEREVAN. In the presence of Dmitry Medvedev and the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, the first national data transmission network based on WiMAX technology (WiMAX) has been launched.

The network, created with the participation of the Russian company COMSTAR - United TeleSystems, covers the largest cities of the republic and is of great importance from the point of view of providing high-quality communications to social facilities, as well as remote and hard-to-reach areas in mountainous areas.

Thanks to the creation of a new network in Armenia, it is planned to solve the problem of the availability of telecommunication services for the population, the state and business.
Currently, in Armenia, fixed-line services are available to 30 percent of the population, the Internet - to seven percent.
