The other day, rumors spread on the Internet that China plans to become the first country to launch IDN domains in practice. This was stated by representatives of the Chinese Network Information Center (CNNIC). Recently, representatives of national organizations involved in the development of the Internet, immediately several countries announced the imminent commissioning of IDN domains. Their main feature is the ability to use the characters of national alphabets. In the case of China, these will be hieroglyphs. IDN domains will be placed in special domain zones, in the name of which non-Latin characters will also be used. It is planned that the mass launch of IDN-domains will begin in 2009.
However, the Chinese plan to overtake the entire planet and be the first to start registering domain names in the national language. True, in fairness it should be noted that they have to solve one rather serious problem. The fact is that in China there are two versions of the language - traditional and simplified. And the same hieroglyphs on different computers may look different. However, the Chinese are optimistic and promise to solve the problem with the encoding in the near future.
