Last week, the US Patent Office granted Microsoft a patent for the technology of "automatic speech censorship." See
patent no. 7,437,290 , entitled “Automatic Censorship of Audio Data for Broadcast”. The idea of the technology is to analyze the audio stream in real time and automatically “gloss over” unwanted words. The patented technology allows you to either add sound noise, distorting the words beyond recognition, or insert an outside sound instead - a standard way, as is customary now on radio and television.
However, Microsoft technology goes even further. Unwanted words, as described in the patent, can be
automatically replaced with other, more favorable, words.
There is no need to be a rocket scientist in order to understand for what needs this technology can be adapted, if it is universally implemented and if such “filters” are controlled from a single control center.
