The free
iSkootMobile program for mobile phones is a clone of
Skype . With its help, all functions available on a personal computer with the usual Skype version appear on the mobile phone, including viewing and updating the contact list, SkypeIn and SkypeOut.
For a VoIP connection, the owner of the mobile phone does not need special equipment and does not even need Internet access. Calls are made through a special gate on Skype tariffs. These tariffs, as is known, are an order of magnitude lower than international telephone rates. If the call is made only via VoIP channels without using the SkypOut service, then it is absolutely free for the subscriber, not counting the usual tariffs of the mobile operator for local connection (with a gate). Similarly, the subscriber can receive calls from the Internet.
ISkootMobile program works in Java environment on
some models of Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones, the list of which is constantly updated on the developer’s website.
Currently, iSkoot gates are functioning only in the United States, but already in August gates should open in Europe and Asia. The use of the gate is still free for demonstration purposes, and after completion of beta testing for regular users a small monthly fee will appear.

ISkoot has filed applications for eight patents that protect the Mobile-to-Skype gateway, client-server protocols and interfaces, and an integrated presence status registration system (the system shows contact lists and notes who is online). In the future, developers are going to provide support for the GoogleTalk protocol.
Skype has signed an
agreement with iSkoot, under which they will jointly promote the iSkootMobile program among mobile operators. It is assumed that the operators will develop special tariff plans for iSkoot subscribers and will offer them to use the gate, so to speak, officially. Such an agreement has already been concluded with the American operator Cingular.
Mobile phone manufacturers will also be the target of Skype and iSkoot marketing efforts, since they can also pre-install iSkootMobile on their phones.
In the near future, the iSkootMobile client program will be uploaded for download on the official Skype website.
