And here is the ninth generation of Intel Core

Some two years have passed since the moment when Intel abandoned its regular withdrawal strategy for tick-to-peer processors, and we have already watched as many as 7 families in the eighth generation alone, and in the 14-nm generation process technology have changed three jokes. And this is not the end: while 10 nm is late, the ninth generation of Intel Core goes on sale, which, however, on closer examination turns out to be not much nine past.

For those who completely lost the logic of current events, I will give a brief summary of the previous series.

So, apart from a single model in the Cannon Lake family, it can be argued that to this day, "Intel Core is all from Broadwell." Including the ninth generation, which has not acquired a new name, but has already received 3 models in its composition. We will turn to them. For example, the table shows the characteristics of the "anniversary" processor Core i7-8086K, released in the summer.

Core i7-8086K$ 4256/1295 W4.0 / 5.012 MB2666UHD 630
The top model of the new line, Core i9-9900K, has 8 hypertreading cores, the base frequency is 3.6 GHz with a TDP of 95 W. Turbo mode: up to 5 GHz on two cores, up to 4.7 GHz on all cores (I wonder how much it consumes in this case). Dual channel DDR4-2666 memory is supported. L3 cache - 2 MB per core. According to the results of testing on a number of games, Intel calls this model "the best choice for gaming platforms."

The next in line is the Core i7-9700K - the same 8 cores, but without hyper-trading. The base frequency of 3.6 GHz is also at TDP of 95 W; however, up to 4.9 GHz, only one core can be overclocked. Finally, the third instance, Core i5-9600K - 6 cores, 6 threads. The names of all three models contain the letter K, which means "unlocked multiplier". Another common feature from the same overclocking area: they all have a layer of solder in their construction for better cooling.

Traditionally, the release of a new family of Intel Core processors is accompanied by an update of the motherboards of the largest manufacturers. This time, preparations began in advance, and in the coming weeks, all the leading players promised to start shipping new products based on the Intel Z390 chipset. Current motherboard models based on the Z370 chipset will also support 9th generation processors after the firmware upgrade. The main differences between the Z370 and Z390 are only two, namely: Z390

The start of sales of new processors is scheduled for the end of October.
