A couple of months ago I had several phone conversations with
Vladimir Shahidzhanyan . The essence and the reason for the conversations is the property of history, but from them I made one thought - the author of the program “Solo on the Keyboard” is sure of two things. First, you cannot quickly type (as far as I understand, this mark starts somewhere around 300-400 characters / min) without owning the correct ten-finger dialing method. Secondly, the easiest way to learn how to type blindly, without looking at the keyboard, is to go through special training (full-time or with the help of computer courses).
When I mentioned that I was typing at a speed of 450-500 characters per minute, and at the same time, Solo, as well as other similar programs, I saw only a couple of times in my life, Vladimir Vladimirovich frankly did not believe me. “With all due respect,” said Mr. Shahidzhanyan, “it’s extremely doubtful that you can’t type with such fantastic speed without using the correct ten-finger method and proper hand setting.” I was somewhat surprised by this thought, because I never considered my typing speed to be fantastic. The usual speed of such a person close to computers with experience. My brother prints faster than me, and also did not learn this. I thought a little.
Subsequently, V.V. mentioned that the speed of printing during the course of his course increases from zero to 150 digits / min. 200 is a good result. 300 is achieved only by additional training. The speed dialing 400 characters per minute have only a few of his students. Thus, an average person who does not own a keyboard at all, having completed a full-time course and spending about 30 hours and 6,200 rubles, will learn to type at a speed of 150 characters per minute.
On the other hand, there are still a lot of people who type blindly much faster, without taking such courses, thanks to just one practice (in ICQ, yeah). How much time did they spend to master, say, the same 150 characters per minute? Does it make sense to study theory or just practice alone? On my personal experience, I was convinced of the second, but it is interesting to look at the results of other people.

Not so long ago, I presented my project to
Klavogonka.Ru . This is an online typing tutor, mixed with auto racing. Enough time has passed for the accumulation of statistics, take a look at some results.
As you can see, the majority is typing at a speed of 150-250 characters per minute. That is, the most cherished dream of a student on a typewriting course has reached this majority.
Now for some interesting player progress charts. This shows the increase in the rate of recruitment by time spent on the site.
User
BIRDru - total time in the race 29 hours 52 minutes
Blind - 42 hours 31 minutes
KeFiR - 44 hours 24 minutes
muromets - 71 hour 53 minutes
3a17ad10 - 50 hours 3 minutes

All graphs show significant growth. And the time spent on this growth is quite comparable with the time required to complete a typewriting course.
For me personally, this is the answer to a question that constantly torments Vladimir Vladimirovich - why is Solo not a bestseller, because almost everyone now works with a computer? Answer: because courses are needed only for
people who theoretically want to master typing, but are not connected with computer work. The rest will do it themselves.
