Wikipedia has finally reached the level of development, allowing the founders of the resource to say that the quantity of its contents should be complemented by quality. Jimmy Wales, father of the online encyclopedia, at the
Wikimania conference in Cambridge, said that Wikipedia content would receive more attention.
According to Wales, the number of English-language articles in the encyclopedia exceeded 1.2 million, and it's time for the “writers” to focus directly on the quality of information. After all, millions of people manage the texts in Wikipedia, while five full-time employees are directly involved in the resource itself.
Meanwhile, “We are almost lucky,” says Wales, meaning that Wikipedia has very little to do with Britannica: three errors in the articles of the latter account for four errors in Wikipedia (which, according to its creator, not strong in humanitarian topics). Wales stressed that "Britannica" for "Wikipedia" is still the standard.

In terms of information security, Wales noted the experience of the German “Wikipedia”, which recently introduced the practice of preserving the “stable versions” of certain articles. It is necessary, of course, to curb the "vandalism" of some users.
At the same time, he said that a number of initiatives are being planned that will make the posting process on a wiki technically simpler.
In addition, Wales said that Wikipedia is working with the One Laptop per Child Association (OLPC, “Every Child's Notebook”), which aims to assist the modern educational process. In particular, it is planned to “fill” laptops with selected articles of the encyclopedia in order to provide unhindered access to a certain amount of information in the absence of the Internet. Recall in the plans of OLPC - to develop a laptop worth $ 100.
