Google will pay sites for posting MTV video clips

Viacom (owner of MTV and other TV channels) is helping Google create an alternative video distribution system. Viacom video clips by Google can be posted on any website on the Internet.

Viacom Corporation is one of the world's largest producers of video content. Now it becomes a strategic partner of Google, which expands the largest network of video advertising. In fact, Google is trying to create its own video distribution system on the Internet, a kind of alternative to YouTube. As you know, YouTube clips can also be embedded on any site. So here, Google provides Adsense interfaces for embedding video clips on any website, while at the same time it guarantees the legality of the transaction and also pays the website owners for advertising.

This transaction may be a sign that Google is entering a new level of relationships with content providers from the news and entertainment industry, writes NYTimes . The new scheme, which offers Google, should suit everyone.

The scheme assumes that content providers license content, and Google ensures that content is placed along with advertising on its affiliate network and shares profits with the rights holders. From unofficial sources, it became known that Google promises to give them more than two thirds of all advertising revenue. This is much more than the promise of other online video advertising companies (including AOL, Brightcove and Revver). True, the smallest of the listed companies, Revver, also promises to allocate to holders up to 70% of total revenue.

What percentage of the advertising revenues will get the sites - not reported. Google representatives said that they never tell their partners this percentage at all, they just have money in their accounts from time to time. For comparison, AOL promises sites a fifth of total ad revenue.

Testing video ads on the Adsense network will begin in late August. At first, Viacom licensed only three of its programs that can be broadcast on the Internet: these are short excerpts from the animated series “Spongebob”, a number of clips from the TV series “Laguna Beach” on MTV, as well as video clips about the MTV Video Music Awards, to be held on August 31st. All videos 2-4 minutes long have a total duration of more than 100 hours. The site owner must embed a Google Video video player on the pages of his resource through which different content will be uploaded every day, including advertising.

Under the terms of the deal, Viacom must approve each site to participate in the program. We accept websites with an audience of at least 100 thousand people per month. The first participants were three sites that specialize in music and video: Hiphopgame.com , purevolume.com and Lyrics.com .

If you compare with YouTube, then Google’s system is bad because it doesn’t allow you to link a separate clip or post comments to it. But she has one indisputable advantage: regular cash payments, which YouTube has never offered.

The Google Video Ad Network will work just like a regular Adsense network. Advertisers can post their video clips by keywords, as well as participate in auctions. Google promises to show ads in accordance with the theme of the videos.
