Microsoft launches social network Windows Live Spaces

As you know, Microsoft now transfers all its services to the Live.com platform. The next "migrant" was the blogger service MSN Spaces, which has become a social network Windows Live Spaces .

The developers used the moment of migration to upgrade and introduce a number of new functions into the system. After that, Windows Live Spaces became an almost exact replica of Myspace . But perhaps the most interesting innovation is the support for Live.com gadgets.

Gadgets are small programs that a third-party developer can develop. They are implemented on any page in the social network through Spaces API program interfaces. In addition, your gadget can be published in a special gallery , from where it is available to all other users. Moreover, the visitor of the page where the gadget is installed can copy the same one to the button itself. To create software modules there is a special developer package .

In addition to supporting gadgets, for security reasons, developers have added access settings. Now the user can pre-establish who has the right to view his profile and who can contact him through MySpace. By default, a user profile under the age of 18 is shown only to those who are in the contact list of its IM pager.

The essence remains the same: on the Windows Live Spaces website, anyone can easily open their blog and then update it with text, photos and other multimedia content. Users can conveniently build their social networks, maintain and develop relationships with an unlimited number of friends.

Windows Live Spaces is a direct competitor to MySpace, as well as similar blogger platforms from Yahoo , Google and other developers. Here, the same functions are implemented, including adding a friend to your network on the recommendation of friends, as well as initiating IM chat right from the web interface.

The service is absolutely free and pays off by showing ads. According to Microsoft, the presence of advertising is crucial for the development of the company. To date, about 40 million people have got their blogs on the MSN Spaces platform, and the site’s monthly audience is approaching 120 million. Every day around 6 million new photos are uploaded to the site, so their total number already exceeds 2.5 billion

In addition to Windows Live Spaces, Microsoft plans to release on the Live.com platform from ten to twenty beta versions of new services by the end of September. For example, a new version of the free Windows Live Safety Center antivirus service will be introduced in the coming weeks.
