The conflict with pirated links in the issuance of "Yandex" is gaining momentum. Chronology of events:
- On August 24, it became known about the decision of the Moscow City Court, obliging Yandex to remove from the list of issue in the search engine links to pirated copies of shows and serials owned by Gazprom-Media.
- On August 27, Roskomnadzor sent a notice to Yandex about the need to stop access to pirated content.
- On August 28, Roskomnadzor explained that the Yandex.Video service could be blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation, if by the evening of August 30 it does not remove links to pirated websites.
And today, on August 29, Yandex officially
refused to delete links .
“In accordance with the Federal Law" On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection, "the mechanic is: pirated content is blocked on the side of the site owner and on the so-called mirrors of this site. Blocking requirements do not apply to search engines. The system has been working this way for a long time, the company said in a statement. “We consider our claims unreasonable and inappropriate and will appeal the rulings of the Moscow City Court.”
“Yandex” received four notifications from Roskomnadzor, which prescribe the removal of content that violates the rights of several TV channels of the Gazprom-Media group,
explained in the company.

Yandex believes that the Moscow City Court’s definitions “fundamentally” contradict its own practice, which was formed earlier on this issue. “To make matters worse, they do not solve the problems of controversial content, as resources with such content will be available in other search engines, social networks, and so on,” said a Yandex representative in a
comment to RBC.
In turn, Roskomnadzor
intends to block Yandex.Video despite appealing a court ruling : “This is an interim measure, in any case, the claim is secured by blocking the resource for 15 days,”
said Vadim Subbotin, deputy regulator. The ministry also noted that the company did not sign a memorandum on combating piracy on the Internet.
