Mail.ru Agent… 007?

I read the post "A gaping hole in Mail.ru? " And remembered one fact.

In early September, the company mail.ru announced the release of a new version of mail.ru-agent. And, most importantly, it announced that it had begun cooperation with GIPS, a company providing VoIP solutions.

GIPS (Global IP Solutions) is located in San Francisco and it’s not clear what the management of Mail.ru thought when choosing an American company as a partner. Of course, I understand that I am not smarter than all those uncles who sit in Mail.ru and choose to work with someone, but it’s a shame for the country. Against the background of the political situation in the world, the attitude of America to Russia, it is not clear why a large Russian IT company buys American software.

Although there may be another option - the political situation is the reason for the decision Mail.ru - that is, American investors have influenced the choice of partner, and these investors have been influenced by the political forces of the United States, who very much want to listen to Russian users. The latter, of course, IMHO.

')

Perhaps sitting in Windows XP, using MS Office, Skype, ICQ and many other non-Russian-made software, I exaggerate a little.

But there is another concern - until recently GIPS solutions have been used in Skype. But at the end of last year, Skype broke off all relations with GIPS, citing the low sound quality. GIPS sued and lost $ 0.5 million to Skype.

Those. Skype complained about poor sound quality (and defended its rights), while Mail.ru, having signed a contract, speaks of a "radical improvement in sound quality." A bit unclear.

Returning to the " gaping hole, " I had a question - and the purchase of American voice software is not the same mistake that the IT giant made, and would it not - no, not a hole - a small loophole for foreign special services?

PS I continue to use the Agent myself, because some clients, for reasons unknown to me, use them only.
