YouTube assigns user content

Under the terms of the new user agreement , YouTube receives almost unlimited rights to distribute and sell the content that users upload to the site. The service has the right to distribute this content in any countries of the world through any media channels in any format, without paying author fees. For example, a company has the full right to print CDs or DVDs with someone else’s footage and sell them, not giving a penny to the authors. With such conditions of the company, the name OurTube.com is more appropriate.

Such "permissiveness" has caused outrage among users . They rightly point out that other similar services do not allow themselves to appropriate someone else's content. For example, in the terms of the MySpace user agreement, it is specifically noted that the company "does not appropriate any ownership of text, files, images, photos, videos, sounds, music, works of authorship or other content that you publish through MySpace services." Other hosting services also offer much more acceptable terms than YouTube.

In defense of YouTube, you can only say that such draconian rules are apparently created in order to protect the company from possible legal claims from users. After all, through the services of YouTube video can spread to thousands of blogs and shown on other sites. Lawyers explain that the rules of YouTube are quite logical. Such is the business model of the company. Moreover, these rules are humane in comparison with various TV shows of the “Self-directed” type, which are forever appropriating video materials. On YouTube, the user has the right to remove his content and thereby terminate the agreement. This is a very important point.

Strictly speaking, the YouTube company also strongly assures the innocence of its own intentions. They made a statement that they had never tried to print and distribute CDs and DVDs with other people's recordings, and in no case were they going to release any material media with such recordings in the future.

Maybe the way it is, outraged users parry. But what will happen if YouTube service is bought by some less “benevolent” corporation? After all, the terms of the user agreement unequivocally say that the company can do whatever it wants with other people's content.

Meanwhile, experts say that YouTube’s value has reached $ 1 billion . It is difficult to say how this assessment was made, but one thing is clear: the main assets of the company are just amateur videos.

It is possible that with such conditions, the YouTube service will forever remain amateur , for amateurs. It is unlikely that professionals will agree to publish their work on such conditions. In this case, any more or less interesting video made talented, will be posted on another hosting.
