Amazon S3: record load

The popularity of Amazon S3 distributed hosting has grown to a record high and continues to grow at a very fast pace. According to the latest statistics , the S3 servers already host 29 billion objects, although three months ago there were only 22 billion. As figuratively compared one of the Amazon S3 programmers, they have four objects for each inhabitant of the Earth.

The current load on the servers also exceeds all limits. Thus, the peak load was registered on October 1, when the number of requests for writing, reading or deleting objects exceeded 70,000 per second.

Due to the increase in storage, Amazon decided to lower the hosting tariffs even further. From November 1, 2008, data storage will cost from 12 cents per gigabyte per month, depending on the total amount and location of the customer (slightly cheaper for Americans).
