The Google translation page caused a “deadly” insult to all Baltic patriots. “I am Lithuanian”, the program translates into English as “I am Russian”, and does not recognize the existence of Vilnius at all.
The sentence “Vilnius yra Lietuvos sostinė” (Vilnius - the capital of Lithuania) Google translates as “Riga is the capital of Lithuania”. And above the phrase in Lithuanian “The name of the capital of Lithuania in Polish is Vilna, and in Lithuanian our capital is called Vilnius. In Vilnius, for the most part, residents of Lithuanian nationality are living. ”Google generally freaked out. “Polish capital of Lithuania - Wilno, and our Polish capital - Warsaw. Vilnius city is mostly populated by ethnic Russian population, ”he translated.
Lithuanian nationalists gnash their teeth and wonder why Google is tough on them. There are two alternatives: either this is a bug in the program code, or detractors had a hand in the work on the Lithuanian version of the translator. Most likely, some Google programmer does not approve of hostility towards Russians in the Baltic States and decided in an accessible way to make the people of Lithuania think. A source
