ROMIR Monitoring: Runet’s audience has slightly decreased

The next quarterly report released a research holding ROMIR Monitoring , according to which in the second quarter of 2006 the audience of the Runet was 19% of the population of Russia at the age of 18+, that is, about 21 million people.

Comparing new results with ROMIR data for the first quarter of the current year, it is obvious that the Net audience will decrease by 3% from 22% to 19%. The researchers do not attach much importance to this fact: “The reduction of the share of Internet users by three percentage points is insignificant because it is comparable to the size of the statistical error allowed in a sample of 1600 respondents for each wave of research,” they say.

In addition, ROMIR attributed this small reduction to seasonal fluctuations, a large number of public holidays in May and the beginning of the holiday season.

So, according to the report, for the II quarter of this year, 16% of respondents use the Internet once or several times a week, and 6% daily. Monthly audience of the Network, as already mentioned, amounted to 19% of Russian residents over 18 years old.

Researchers have noted a marked decrease in the number of Internet users in the North-West and Siberian regions. At the same time, the Central Federal District (29% of Internet users), Privolzhsky (18%) and Siberian (15%) stand out in the regional picture of the distribution of users.

The income level of the respondents, as before, directly correlates with their attention to the Web: the percentage of Internet users is higher among people with high earnings. In Q2, a significant share of Internet users is still made up of users with an income of more than 5,000 rubles, while the majority of them are online much more often than representatives of less well-off groups.

Most of the Internet users among managers are 47%, students and students 45%, qualified specialists 36%. The latter worked most actively on the Web, it was among them that most of all were representatives of the daily and weekly audience of Runet.
