The uniqueness of the social network
Dandelife is that it is based on biographical facts. Registering here, a person writes memoirs, documenting in detail the events of his life.
The main difference between Dandelife, for example, from
MySpace is in the reliability of the information. If MySpace users can impersonate anyone and these fantasies are even encouraged by the very logic of the system, then everything is based on the documentary nature of the events: the truth of every fact, every name, every tag.
“The idea of creating such a network came to Kelly Abbott, and I helped implement it,” says
Edward Shenderovich , an American entrepreneur of Russian origin and, together with Kelly Abbott, one of the two founders of the project. - Kelly's idea was to create a space for organizing all the places, people and things that happened in life, around the time line. The project was created for people who tell stories and can establish connections with other people based on these stories. ” For example, thanks to tags you can see on the site all the stories dedicated to
September 11 ,
weddings or, for example,
drunkenness . Subscribe to RSS feeds by subject tags.
Each member of the social network Dandelife after registration indicates 1) the names of people whom he knows; 2) the places he visited; 3) the events in which he participated. Private blogs from other platforms, photos from
Flickr , videos from
YouTube are added here, tags and comments are added to each event (

personal timeline of Kelly Abbott, co-founder of the project.

Immediately after the official launch last week, the Dandelife site hit the popular TechCrunch blog. Due to this, in the first 72 hours after the launch of the public beta version, more than a thousand people registered on the site, and the total number of visitors exceeded 12 thousand. Judging by the little hype in the blogosphere, this original project is really popular with people. “Our startup has a very serious supervisory board,” says Edward. “It includes
Jeffrey Zeldman [renowned design specialist], as well as Ross Mayfield from
Socialtext , Mike Jones from
UserPlane, and Bruce Livingston from
iStockPhoto . Each of them believes in the success of Dandelife and how it can help in the promotion of the site. ”
- What business model will the site have? What is supposed to make a profit? - We asked this question to the co-founder of Dandelife.
- As we wrote in one of the posts in the corporate blog, “our business is memories”. Profits will come from subscriptions and advertising. However, this will be a special kind of advertising. Instead of conventional banners and text ads, Dandelife will work with advertisers to create special brand-squares (brandspaces). We have already started working with several companies that have expressed interest in our concept and are planning to use such opportunities in the near future.
- Will the Russian version of Dandelife appear?- Stories in Russian are already there, and quite fascinating. When I go to the site, I read them first. As for the Russified interface, we will soon open an API for creating localized versions of Dandelife. I think that the Russian version will appear one of the first.
