Good day!
With you company
3Dtool .
Today we will talk about the “fill” parameter, the same “
infill ” in the slicer settings.
In the arsenal we have the same
Hercules Strong on the hardware side and Slic3r on the software side.
Task: you need to reasonably and objectively find out which type of filling is the most optimal (the strongest and fastest).

Go…
First stage
We print one simple model with all possible types of filling.
PLA, nozzle diameter 0.5 mm, layer height 0.2 mm, filling everywhere 10%, speed 70 mm / s (!)

size of detail: 69mm * 63mm * 4mm

Types of filling:

Next, we took three different parts for comparison: a simple model: a cube 60 x 60 x 60 mm, our printed simple piece and a complex large piece and compared the print time.
Material PLA, nozzle diameter 0.5 mm, layer height 0.2 mm, filling density everywhere 10%.
Comparison table

On fillings such as
Line and
Rectilinear , where the threads are printed perpendicular to each other, extrusion at a speed of 70 mm / s breaks. The thread hooks onto the thread of the previous layer and cuts off, resulting in holes, which can badly affect the strength of the part. Therefore, it is better to either not use these types of fillings at high speeds, or reduce the printing speed to about 40 mm / s.
Hilbert Curve ,
Archimedean Chords ,
Octagram Spiral and
Concentric fillings print quickly, but we were unable to
guess their purpose. It can be possible to print puzzles and roll balls from bearings through the maze. Also, it is possible that these types will be useful when printing layouts where strength characteristics are not so important. Maybe someone has more ideas?
Details with
Honeycomb ,
3D Honeycomb ,
Cubic ,
Stars and
Triangles fillings were the strongest, but the density of
Cubic ,
Stars and
Triangles fillings is visually lower than that of
Honeycomb and
3D Honeycomb , despite one value of 10%. If we need to get a more dense grid (15-20%), the printing time will also increase accordingly.
In terms of print quality at a speed of 70 mm / s, print time and durability,
3D Honeycomb wins. This is the result.
We hope this experience will be useful to you.
