The round table, which took place yesterday at the
RIA Novosti press center, discussed the topic “Internet versus traditional media”. According to Valery Fedorov, director of
VTsIOM , Internet publications cannot yet compete with more familiar media audiences, although they have prospects in this regard.
In support of his words, Fedorov cited statistics according to which the Internet as the main source of information is used by 21% of Muscovites and Petersburgers,
9-12 % of residents of other cities and 3% of rural residents. “As the media, the Internet has taken place in Russia, but is a“ niche ”media," he explains. “Although this is [the Internet] is not the place of residence of only high school students or students, there are clearly expressed age differences, price, cultural, infrastructural barriers.”
Alexey Nikolov, editor of the
Russia Today TV channel, noted that the number of new media is growing rapidly, but the flow of information from this is not getting any better - reports the newspaper
Vzglyad , one of the co-organizers of the round table. Perhaps it is the poor quality of journalistic information that shortens the life of web publications. According to Nikolov, a year later, out of the newly registered online media, “no more than a third are alive.
')
However, according to Valery Fedorov, sometimes there is more confidence in the network information than in the information of traditional sources - government bodies, paper newspapers, etc. In this regard, we are talking about blogs, the credibility of which is constantly increasing. It was said that not only readers, but also journalists from the federal media get information from blogs. In particular, the participants of the “round table” recalled inadvertently a “duck” published by a number of publications about the death of Governor Matvienko’s son.
Olga Karabanova, executive director
of the Press Development Institute , spoke about the future of the media. According to her, this is the future - after convergence, which consists in combining all information channels and resources. At the same time, she noted that it would be incorrect to contrast online media with traditional ones, since they complement each other. However, there is competition between them - commercially due to the gradual redistribution of advertising budgets in favor of Internet sites.
