US parliament bans gambling online

As expected, the US House of Representatives on Tuesday approved a new bill that puts an end to online gambling in America. Despite the best efforts of the “game” lobby, the voting ended with a score of 317-93 .

The new bill prohibits banks as well as credit card issuers from making payments in favor of gambling websites. The government also reserves the right to put pressure on Internet providers to block the traffic of such sites. This is a terrible blow to the global gambling industry. Half of its annual turnover of $ 12 billion is still provided by the American players. Under the new law, the only outlet for gambling Americans will remain horse racing and lotteries, to which the ban does not apply.

The authors of the bill, speaking before a vote in parliament, stressed its particular importance. The law must solve one of the saddest problems of modern society — uncontrollable passion. In America, there are cases when the lives of young people were destroyed because of their painful gambling addiction. For example, one guy tried to rob a bank to pay off debts. The sad cases of gambling addiction are often found in Russia (maybe even more often than in America), but Russian society still does not pay much attention to this problem.

The bill was developed by representatives of the Republican Party before the November elections as part of their election initiative in defense of moral values. For official approval, he still has to pass consideration in the Senate. There are only a few days left before the election campaign, so there are big doubts that the bill will be adopted this year. If the senators do not have time to consider it, it will be postponed for next year.

The progress of the bill is closely followed by the owners of online casinos, poker sites and bookmakers, the vast majority of which are based in Europe. Here this business flourishes in a wild color, and major companies such as Partygaming Plc or 888 Holdings Plc are even listed on the London Stock Exchange. After passing the law through the American parliament, their quotes fell slightly (by 0, 6-0 , 7%). As can be seen, the decline was extremely insignificant, that is, the market most likely does not believe that the US Senate will have time to pass a new law.
