On the pages of the multi-portal
KM.Ru for some time, you can watch the
link-announcement of the KM
Aska service. The service is defined as the “first Russian Internet pager”, which is integrated with ICQ and has a number of additional functions.
Among the declared functions are: instant notification of a letter arriving at KM.Ru mail, quick access to portal services (news, weather reports, currency exchange rates), searching the Internet without visiting search sites, etc.
The KM Aska program itself is currently in beta testing, and the developers admit that a lot of it does not work yet. It is known that visitors to the portal, who, according to the counter
Rambler's Top100 , are more than 100 thousand unique per day, produce about 300 downloads of the program per day. KM specialists reported that at this stage their ICQ is distinguished by a unique message encryption system - it is automatically performed on the server, but it was not possible to find out the details of the system’s work.

Since KM Aska, in addition to the usual
ICQ services, has functions that are familiar to users via
Agent@Mail.Ru , we asked the opinion about the new product from Anna Artamonova, Vice President of
Mail.Ru and Director of Marketing and PR.
“First of all, the product presented by CM,” says Anna, “is not a standalone messenger at all, but a gate in ICQ plus a toolbar for quick access to the services of the CM itself. It does not have its own data exchange protocol, its own customer base, etc., so I think it’s pointless to discuss its independent perspectives as a messenger. What is interesting is the question: did the company KM agree with ICQ officially or not? ”
Habrahabr inquired about this in the CM and received a response that there are no official agreements with ICQ yet, because it is not yet clear whether the service will develop further, or if the company will close the project.
