Nearly two-thirds of humanity with mobile

image The Telegraph newspaper broadcasts to the masses the words of Amadoun Toure (Hamadoun Touré), Secretary General of ITU (International Telecom Union): in December of this year there will be 4 billion people on our planet using a mobile phone. This is 61% of the current population of the Earth - 6.7 billion.

In 1999 only 12% of earthlings had a mobile phone, and between 2000 and 2008 there was a “cellular” explosion in developing countries. This year the percentage of growth has reached 50%.

Speaking at the UN Millennium Development Goals meeting, Dr. Toure noted that “it is technically possible to connect the entire human population” to the benefits of information communication technology.
