Installing Android SDK 1.0 on HTC Touch / Vogue

It has long been time for happy owners of a number of HTC phones (in particular, on MSM7500 processors, for example, Touch) to start enjoying the charms of Android not in emulators, but literally in their hands - on the screens of their own phones. How? Not at all difficult!

The main work on porting the android to the platform at the moment is this comrade . On its own page, you can download the archive with the latest build of Android (and installation instructions read below).
Another option is to download the installation .cab file from this page. Everything is simple - run the file and ready. Next, the android is launched from Start-> Programs-> harret. The disadvantages of this option - the cab file is collected from what is laid out on the previous link - which is often fresher and more stable.

Both installation methods are absolutely safe for your Windows Mobile 6.1 and current data on the phone, so you can safely carry out experiments. The main requirement is 256 MB of free space on the card after copying files.

There is no guarantee that on these phones this Android build will start - it is sharpened just under Vogue, but it's definitely worth a try.
For the less fortunate owners of HTC Elf (aka European Touch with an OMAP850 processor) with basic knowledge of ARM Linux - go through, read, try :)

What you can get:
It is quite a working system, very similar to what was shown to us in the video about G1.

Maps is a full-fledged Google Map. Pretty polished - I did not find any flaws. Is that my not had a street view. The rest - works great. I personally enjoy using it more pleasantly than on the iPhone browser - there is no need to change the zoom with two fingers :) And My Location mode shows a little dot in the Polo Alto, it was driving on the way at that time. Interesting - someone's life!

Browser - very nice to use. Smart, with a cool and functional zoom, interesting finds in the interface. Really nice effects. Support for a large number of windows – tabs (implementation is approximately the same as in mobile safari).
In principle, there are no complaints. Pages such as the main Lepra (a large and heavy page with a bunch of large pictures) do not slow down, smoothly scrolling with the movement of a finger, zooming, and so on. It is pleasant and interesting to use the Internet!

It sends sms, they reach - hooray!

There is something wrong with the announcements in my build. For example, a text message comes in - the vibration is turned on and you will not turn it off anymore except by rebooting. The same with incoming calls. All outgoing - works fine. Sounds too, so the problem is precisely the vibration not caused directly by the user.

I also installed the following applications there: the camera (as in the emulator, also does not work), the calculator, the ssh client (hooray!), Developer information and settings, a globe with a shadow creeping, an alarm clock (very cool, with different “skins” "), Audio player, image viewer.

Since for some reason the sd card does not work (strange!) - there is nothing to test the music and the image viewer.

Of the glitches, the touch – keyboard does not look very good (but it’s quite possible to use) and vibrates when you press the buttons, which is rather strange and sure to be fixed very soon. Fonts do not always fit on buttons. Well, besides what I described above, I have not yet noticed any special bugs in the system.

They also say that applications can be installed on this assembly without any special problems - and there are literally hundreds and hundreds of them on the network.
How to try - I will write :)
