I understand that the title is incompatible. But
Alps Electric has called its new development precisely this way [Non-Contact Touchpad]. This is a capacitive sensory technology, with which it is possible to determine the position of a finger at a distance of about three centimeters from the surface.

The development demonstration took place at the Alps Show 2008 own exhibition, during which some unique features of the new technology were shown. For example, by moving your hand from one side of the touch pad to the other, you can start watching the video. And the rewind roller is carried out by turning the palm.
As one of the advantages of contactless technology, Alps Electric calls the ability to control a laptop even with dirty hands. It's funny, but in some places it is very popular (do you eat at the computer?;)).

To date, the capabilities of the prototype are limited. But Alps Electric is not going to launch the device into production right now. Refine, apparently, will be long and hard. But the idea is interesting.
