Shopping - like a war, or a flash mob in Chinese

Recently, in the city of Guangzhou, in the south of China, people do not go shopping. Online, they make an appointment, after which they arrive at the scheduled time to, say, the central electronics supermarket. Five hundred Chinese go to the supermarket, choose goods and buy them at once, receiving a 10-30 % discount as wholesale buyers.

“It was very cool,” said Fairy Jung, who left the supermarket with a big box. “We just bought an apartment, and now, with this kind of shopping, we can afford other good things.” On the previous weekend, according to the Economist.com, the company managed to visit a furniture store - no one was left without purchases either.

Tuangou (“ team-buying ” in English and “collective shopping” in Russian) is a new find for Chinese citizens who literally drive them crazy. There is something of a flash mob in the touango, but the goals of the stocks are purely practical. “We want to save money, this is in our national character,” says Fiona Lee, who was at the forefront of the new Chinese fun. “We are rich or poor, but if it is possible to save, then why not?” During the first collective shopping rally, a crowd of 15 Chinese bargained with the warehouse manager for about 10% discount for about 2 hours, after which the discount was received, and the tango was deeply seated in the hearts of the people.

The all-pervasive Internet and the organization of the Chinese crowd are doing their job - the Touangou is spreading around the country at the speed of a fire. Specialized websites appeared - 51tuangou.com , teambuy.com.cn, and others - the creators of which felt the trend in time and in a short time received about 10,000 registered users. Touangou is quickly overgrown with infrastructure, and companies organizing “team purchases” are already planning to open branches in Beijing and Shanghai. They attract clients due to their experience in the Toungou business - they know, for example, where the appearance of a “team” will not cause serious confrontation with a trader.

Such consumer behavior can be called aggressive. But in China, where the will of the individual is almost imperceptible, it turns out to be very effective. People understood: since there are so many of them, it is necessary to unite into larger social units. For example, the villagers of the Middle Kingdom all of their protests against corruption and the dictates of local authorities are expressed in extremely large groups. It can be concluded that now the urban middle class is developing the same skills.
