Today there is only one geographical domain zone (gTLD) - CAT (Catalonia). However, it is possible that another such domain will soon appear - PDX, created specifically for the city of Portland (USA, Oregon). At least, activists of the local Internet community have begun active work in this direction. First of all, they enlisted the support of local commercial companies that turned out to be interested in hosting their web projects in this area. At the moment, they are busy implementing the second step - receiving support from local governments. And, despite the skepticism of this initiative of many experts, activists are confident that the registration of domains in the PDX zone will begin in December next year.
If the PDX domain appears, then perhaps the actions of Portland activists can serve as an example for many other regions. After all, this will be the first case when representatives of the Internet community of a single region, in fact, independently achieved the creation of a new domain zone. Naturally, this is impossible without attracting substantial financial resources. However, the very fact of initiative in the hands of ordinary Internet users is important here.
