The official opening of the
Accoona project took place in December 2004. The company entered into an agreement with the Chinese government, and the Bill Clinton Foundation was one of the investors. The former president himself attended the grand opening ceremony.
An exclusive agreement with the state information agency China Daily Information gave Accoona access to data on millions of Chinese companies. Now this database is significantly expanded and available for search through a search site.
From a technological point of view, the new search engine was different in that it could, firstly, iterate over the synonyms for each word from the search query, and secondly, use special
SuperTarget tags, with which you can select one or several words in the search query to increase their “weights” when calculating the relevance of results, as well as change other conditions for filtering search results.
For a year and a half, no significant improvements were made to the engine. The search site clearly strengthened the list in the direction of the “business” search engine. Their search index contains information on tens of millions of companies from around the world (11 million from China, 25 million from the USA and 28 million from Europe). Recently, the
European branch of the search engine was opened.

Despite the emergence of a European branch, the creators of the new search engine have so far failed to confirm their big ambitions, and they claimed that the quality of their search was even better than that of Google. Nevertheless, Accoona continues to amaze - they have released an add-on to
Accoona Toolbar for IE 6+ browser with speech synthesis function. With the help of such a toolbar, you can select any text written in English on a web page, and the computer will read it out loud. The system is designed primarily for those who are learning English and want to improve their English pronunciation. However, it can be used by any users who are too lazy to read the text themselves.
At this opportunity "magic toolbar" does not end there. In addition to reading texts, he can still ... play chess at the level of a grandmaster. Last year there was even a
demonstration match with the 32nd grandmaster of the world.
