The number of SMS is growing, the number of calls is falling

At the end of 2007, text messages for the first time outperformed voice communication (this is Nielsen Mobile statistics for US users). Over the past year, the trend has become even more pronounced: since then, the average number of SMS from one user has increased by as much as 64%, while the number of voice telephone calls has not increased, but has even decreased!

According to the most recent data, the average subscriber receives or makes 204 telephone calls every month, while the monthly number of SMS has increased to 357 .

The biggest fans of SMS are teenagers from 13 to 17 years old, their figure is equal to 1,742 messages per month (42% of them even know how to dial SMS blindly). Among young people from 18 to 24 years old, text traffic is equal to 790 messages.

Cellular operators are immensely pleased with this trend, because SMS traffic is hundreds of times more profitable for them than voice. A typical operator charges subscribers for SMS at the rate of $ 700 per 1 megabyte .
