Very few companies started with a truly original idea. Many Internet companies were created on the basis of ideas from the real world, adapted to the Internet. In the end, not only the first movers became popular and made millions, many simply did better and differently:
- Google was not the first search engine
- 37signals is not the first company to launch a GTD application.
- Subway, Quizzno's, and Jimmy John's all make sandwiches
- Many companies sell coffee
- GMail was not the first webmail
- Picasso was not the first artist
- YCombinator was not the first online incubator
- MySpace and Facebook are not the first social networks
- The first MP3 player did not Apple
